Homemade Dal Dhokli Recipe
Ingredients:
For Dal:
1 cup Tur Dal
2 big tomatoes chopped finely
1/2 cup roasted peanuts
1/2 tbsp garlic finely chopped
1/2 tbsp ginger finely chopped
2 green chillies finely chopped
few curry leaves finely chopped
some coriander leaves finely chopped
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
2-3 pinch of asafoetida (hing)
1 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tbsp chilli powder
1/2 tbsp coriander powder
1 tsp jeera (cumin )powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tbsp jaggery
1/2 lemon juice
salt as per taste
For Dhokli:
1 cup wheat flour
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp chilli powder
1/4 tsp ajwain (carom seeds)
1 tbsp oil
salt as per taste
Method:
Clean, wash and soak the dal for half an hour.
Take a pressure cooker add the dal, turmeric and salt. Cook upto 3-4 whistles.
Once the pressure is released open the cooker and with the back of a spoon mash the dal into a fine paste, add water if required.
Take a pan heat 2 tbsp oil or ghee add the asafoetida, mustard and jeera. Once it splutters add the ginger, garlic, green chillies, curry leaves and saute for a second.
Add the tomatoes and the peanuts and cook till oil leaves the sides.
Add all the dry spices, jaggery and the mashed dal and cook on slow flame for 5-10 minutes.
Remove from flame and add lemon juice. Keep aside.
In a bowl add all the ingredients for the Dhokli mix well and knead it into a soft dough similar to chapati dough.
Keep it to rest for 15-20 minutes.
Divide the dough into 2 equal size balls.
Roll it into chapati which is of medium thickness and then cut it into square pieces.
In a pan boil some water .
Add all the cut pieces of the dough in the boiling water and cook for 15-20 minutes till it is cooked .Remove and keep it aside.
Add the cooked dhokli in the dal and boil the dal again for 5-10 minutes.
Remove in serving bowls and garnish with coriander leaves.
