Homemade Dal Tadka Recipe
Ingredients :
2 cups tur dal
2 onions chopped finely
2 tomatoes chopped finely
2 green chillies chopped finely
1 tbsp chopped ginger
1 tbsp chopped garlic
2 tbsp chopped curry leaves
1/4 tsp asafoedita
1-2 whole red chillies
1 tsp jeera ( cumin seeds )
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp chilli powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
4 tbsp ghee
salt as per taste
some chopped corainder leaves
Method :
Clean , wash and soak the dal in 5-6 cups water for half an hour . In a pressure cooker add turmeric and salt and the soaked dal with the water. Cook the dal up to 3-4 whistles.
Open the cooker once the pressure has subsidised and keep aside.
In a pan or kadai heat 2 tbsp ghee add the curry leaves, garlic and ginger saut for a second and then add the chopped onions. Saute till it is soft then add the tomatoes and cook till drops of ghee are seen on the sides of the kadai. Add the coriander powder half quantity of red chilli powder and the cooked dal and water if required. The consistency should be semi thick. Keep aside.
In a small pan heat the remaining ghee for the tadka , once hot add the asafoetida, mustard, jeera , whole red chiilies and chilli powder.
Pour it over the dal and cover.
Remove in a serving bowl and garnish with some coriander leaves
Serve this delicious dal with rice or chapati.
