Home made Moong Dal Recipe

Ingredients:

For Dal:

  • 1 cup moong dal (yellow dal )

  • 1/2 tsp tumeric powder

  • salt to taste

For Tadka:

  • 1 tbsp ghee

  • 1/4 tsp asefodita

  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)

  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder

  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder

  • 1 tsp ginger finely chopped

  • 1/2 tbsp lemon juice

  • coriander leaves for garnishing

Method:

  1. Clean, wash the dal and soak it for half an hour with 4 cups of water.

  2. In a heavy based vessel add the soaked dal , turmeric and salt. Cook it on medium to low flame till the dal becomes soft. It should take about 20-30 minutes to cook the dal. If required more water can be added while cooking the dal.

  3. Remove from flame and prepare the tadka by heating ghee in a small pan when hot add the asefodita ,jeera as soon as it splutters add the ginger, red chili powder and coriander powder Pour the tadka on the dal and cover it for aminute or two.

  4. Remove in a serving bowl and garnish with coriander leaves and lemon juice.

    Enjoy with rice and chapatis.

Note: the above recipe is without using the pressure cooker alternatively it can be cooked in the pressure cooker with 1-2 whistles and then follow from step no 3.
