Homemade Sweet Potato Halwa Recipe
Ingredients:
1 kg sweet potato (shakarkhandi)
1/4 cup ghee
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 tsp cardamom powder
pinch of saffron powder or saffron strands
3-4 tbsp chopped nuts ( almonds and pistachio)
Method:
Wash the sweet potatoes and then boil them in a pressure cooker with enough water upto 3 whistles.
Remove from the cooker and peel them. Grate or mash the sweet potatoes and keep aside.
Take a heavy based vessel or kadai, heat ghee and cook the sweet potatoes on low flame stirring continuously for 5-7 minutes. Then add the sugar and cook till the sugar melts. Add the milk, cardamom and saffron and cook till the milk dries and leaves the sides of the vessel.
Remove from flame and garnish with chopped nuts.
Enjoy this yummy halwa during fast or vrat.
